Community Plumbing Challenge : 2-5 Nov 2015, Nashik India

World Skill Foundation has accepted our IPSC's bid to field a Team India to participate in the above challenge. Teams from Spain, Australia, USA and India shall participate. CPC teams shall be required to collaborate and communicate with local people (A school in Nashik has been chosen for renovation and up-gradation of its toilets and hand wash facilities) and compete to suggest a solution which is best and sustainable keeping the socio economic condition of the community in mind. The aim of the challenge is to build a lasting and sustainable infrastructure for communities in need, promoting skills and knowledge exchange to inform and empower the peers and inspire the next generation. This challenge is in line with the Gov. of India initiatives and campaign for Swatch Bharat and digital India. Winning team shall be entrusted with one of the projects sponsored by UN/WHO for the community nominated by them.

Concept paper on "Global Vision, local action: The Community plumbing challenge" along with information pack for the CPC is attached and same can be downloaded in case anyone is interested.



World Skills Competition-2015 Brazil
The next World Skills Competition shall be held at Sao Paulo ,Brazil from 11-16,August 2015, after the last one held at Germany in August 2013.

Panel Discussion, Certificate Distribution Ceremony & Launch of Emagazine
Certificates for Pilot Project Utthan were distributed to the candidates. 36 Candidates received their RPL certificates issued by IPSC & NSDC. High Tea was arranged for the Plumbers. Mr. Somany, Mr, Vinay Gupta, Mr, CS Gupta, Mr. M. K Gupta, Mr. SK Aggarwal, Mr. Sandip Roy Chaudhary, Prof V.K Paul and Mr. N Rajiv were presented to grace the occasion.

A panel discussion was also organized on 10th Nov. The topic was Plumbing Education and Skilling.  The panelist were

The healthy discussion was done on the scope and current scenario in Plumbing Skills in India.
On the same occasion an e magazine was launched by Mr. R.K Somany.  Plumbing Engineering & Skills, it is a bi monthly e magazine and sent to 10000 plumbers in their local language.

Skill Competition in Bangaluru - 22 & 23rd November 2014

In order to encourage Skilling in Plumbing IPSC has taken initiatives and organize 2nd Plumbing Skill competition during 18th Indian Plumbing Conference in Bangaluru. The competition theme was to fix Bathroom fittings and fixtures.
4 Teams have been participated in the competition with 3 members in each Team i.e. Supervisor, Plumber and helper. The participants were:
1- Viega 
2- Kitec
3- Astral Pipes
4-Ashirwad Pipes
The teams were graded by the Judges in a marks sheet and the final selection of winners was done by a ‘Jury’.
The Judges were:- 

  1. Mr. Prasanna      
  2. Mr. BSA Narayan         
  3. Mr. Ram Chandarn
  4. Mr. Manjunath.

The Jury:-

  1. Mr. R.K Somany
  2. Mr. Sudhakaran Nair

Viega secured 1st Position, Kitec secured 2nd position and 3rd position was seized by Astral Pipes.


Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC) had organised a 'Professional Pipe Jointing Competition during 'PlumbexIndia '14 on 22 nd Feb. 2014 .Some of the members of the NEC team of IPA took the time off to attend the same . The event was a great success .

In order to share some aspects of the competition the salient features are given below :

  1. A full length pipe of length 3 meters ,of 15 mm & compatible elbows, tees, couplers etc was required. This pipe could be of the material of the competing company.
  2. The required tools for jointing, jointing materials, cutting tools, measuring instruments etc were to be brought by the participant.
  3. Manufacturer's instructions, if any were a must to be deposited with the registration form at the IPSC booth H 1 C
  4. Four plumbers were to participate in the competition from each of the four participants
  5. The plumbers should wear smart casual dress and all should have safety implements required for execution of work.
  6. The plumbers were to report at 10 AM (one hour before the scheduled time of competition) at venue.
  7. Instructions & drawings for the competition were given and, each plumber had 30 minutes time for the test.
  8. The Examiners & jury observed them & best of the four were awarded the 1st prize in four categories as there were four manufacturers.
  9. The decision of the jury was final.
  10. A super winner was also selected - A Timex watch is being awarded to him.
  11. A certificate of participation was awarded to each plumber
The 4 participating teams consisted of 4 plumbers each .

The participants were :

  1. Rajco Metal- Copper
  2. Viega- Stainless Steel
  3. Lubrizol-CPVC
  4. Kitec- Composite

The teams were given 4 types to 'tests' and each test was graded by the Judges in a marks sheet and the final selection of winners was done by a 'Jury' .The winners of the competition were given prizes by IPSC and certificates of competition .The Judges and Jury were given a memento as a token of our appreciation.

IPSC would plan future events on a bigger scale including other products & not restrict to only piping.

 2nd India Australia Skills Conference: Training and Industry – Bridging the Skills Divide

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising the “3rd National Conference on Skill Development” at New Delhi on 28 November 2013. The conference is an engagement platform for stakeholders to share, discuss and deliberate on issues and topics pertaining to Skills Development.

The last two CII National Conferences on Skill Development emphasised  the importance of building a robust and cohesive skills ecosystem in India. Industry stalwarts and policy makers from the central and state government deliberated on quality and quantity issue in skilling India effectively.

The 3rd National Conference on Skill Development comes with the theme India Inc: Reviving Economic Growth through Skill Development. With the skill development ecosystem maturing, opportunities are being created on the demand and supply side. Indian industry is looking at strategic entry points and realistically asking- What can I give and how can I participate? The happy conclusion is that India Inc. sees the unique moment in history that the country is positioned at today, with a young and able population to work with.
